Hendrix Genetics will break ground for its new hatchery operation in Grand Island on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 9 a.m. While the state-of-the-art $10 million facility will span twenty acres in the north-east section of Grand Island's Platte Valley Industrial Park-East (PVIP-E), the ceremony will be held in closer to the intersection of Blaine and Schimmer roads.

"After the announcement of Hendrix Genetics' expansion to Grand Island in January, the GIAEDC staff and Board of Trustees are excited to welcome Hendrix Genetics to their new site," says Dave Taylor, President of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation "The project's multi-million dollar investment and the addition of 35-50 jobs will dramatically change the landscape of our industrial park and community." In addition to the main hatchery, 8 egg-laying and 3 pullet barns will be constructed within 100 miles of Grand Island. The outlying barns will support the hatchery and its daily operation.

"Our team at Hendrix Genetics is thrilled to be one step closer to expanding our operations to Grand Island. With the help of the GIAEDC and city leaders in Grand Island, our expansion efforts have been seamless and easy," says Peter Mumm, Managing Director of Hendrix-ISA. "The US population consumes nearly 260 eggs per person per year. With that, there are 300 million egg-laying hens supplying eggs to consumers in the United States. The Grand Island hatchery will contribute to the world demand by producing 24 million egg-laying chicks per year beginning in 2017."

Hendrix-ISA will continue to produce brown and white eggs, specifically Isa Brown, Bovans Brown, Shaver White, Dekalb White, and Bovans White. This expansion, along with fully operating hatcheries in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and Blackstone, Virginia, demonstrates Hendrix-ISA's commitment to serving the US-market with premium quality, day-old, cage free, egg laying chicks (layer chicks).

Steve Welch, Project Manager, has established an office in Grand Island and will serve as the local contact for Hendrix-ISA.
