College Park

Grand Island, the third largest city in Nebraska, is attempting to overcome its greatest barrier to growth, economic development and diversification — the absence of a comprehensive institution of higher learning.

The Grand Island College Park Committee has successfully formed a unique consortium of public and private colleges. These institutions are collectively committed to providing complete sequences of courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Participating colleges include Central Community College and Doane College. District and Hall County Cooperative Extension Service resources enhance the program offerings.

Fiber optics and satellite technology enable campuses located too far away to justify the time and expense of sending instructors, to teach classes and deliver a comprehensive program of instruction that is effective, practical and affordable. This facility accommodates one and two-way videoconferences and classes in classroom settings as well as in a 300-seat auditorium with a full stage. A Video Conference Service is also available for small administrative meetings between selected sites.

This number means that Grand Island students score higher then 60% of the students in the nation. This is phenomenal growth when compared to the 44th percentile of few years ago. These gains are the result of a focused curriculum and the 1200 highly dedicated and nationally trained team of professional and support staff. Simply put, we have some of the greatest staff in the Midwest working with our students.

Grand Island Senior High School continues to seek programs that can help connect student students to their learning. In addition to the Medical Pathway and JROTC programs, the high school recently developed a collaborative engineering program with Chief Industries. In addition, academically motivated students can obtain 32 college credits without ever leaving the halls of GISH.
