Hendrix-ISA LLC to Expand Hatchery Operations to Grand Island

Published on

Hendrix-ISA (part of the Layer Business Unit of Hendrix Genetics will expand its hatchery operation to Grand Island, Nebraska in Spring 2016. This expansion, along with fully operating hatcheries in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and in Blackstone, Virginia, demonstrates the commitment of Hendrix-ISA in serving the US-market with premium quality, day-old, cage free, egg laying chicks (layer chicks).

"After a thorough exploration phase and an investigation of multiple locations and possibilities, we have chosen Grand Island, Nebraska for our company's expansion," Peter Mumm, Managing Director of Hendrix-ISA LLC says. "The minute we stepped off of the plane in Grand Island we were impressed with the community. The community's readily available infrastructure, progressive growth, both industrial and commercial, and people all contributed to our decision to make Grand Island the future home of our expansion."

The cutting edge, ultramodern Hendrix-ISA hatchery will be located in the north-east corner of Platte Valley Industrial Park-East (PVIP-E). "The GIAEDC staff and Board of Trustees are excited to welcome Hendrix-ISA LLC to Grand Island. The Hendrix-ISA hatchery will enhance the diversity of Grand Island's agribusiness, as well as be the catalyst for development at PVIP-E," says Dave Taylor, President of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation. "The project's multi-million dollar investment and the addition of 35-50 jobs will dramatically change the landscape of our community." In addition to the main hatchery, 8 egg-laying and 3 pullet barns will be constructed within 100 miles of Grand Island. The outlying barns will support the hatchery and its daily operation.

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development assisted in the recruitment of Hendrix-ISA. "Congratulations to Hendrix-ISA and the City of Grand Island for embarking on an exciting new business partnership," said Governor Pete Ricketts. "This state-of-the-art expansion of Hendrix-ISA's operations will grow employment opportunities and investment in Grand Island and Nebraska."

The Grand Island hatchery will produce 24 million chicks per year, beginning the first quarter of 2017. Hendrix-ISA will continue to produce brown and white eggs, specifically Isa Brown, Bovans Brown, Shaver White, Dekalb White, and Bovans White.

Steve Welch, Project Manager, has established an office in Grand Island and will serve as the local contact for Hendrix-ISA.
